The Western Heights Preservation Society are pleased to be able to open the Noirth Entrance and the Grand Shaft staircase again this year as part of the Heritage Open Weekend on Sat 8th & Sun 9th September 2018. This unique structure is rarely open to the public and is a fascinating insight into the defences of Dover’s Western Heights, remaining largely unaltered since its original construction.Due to the nature of the site access is strictly supervised and we are hosting guided tours on both days starting at 1000 and running every half an hour until 1500 with a maximum of 10 people per tour.
Booking is via Eventbrite and the link will be posted here and on our calendar page approximately two weeks before the tour dates. We look forward to welcoming you to one of our favourite sites and sharing this unquie environment with you.
Please note that access is not suitable for those with limited mobility or pushchairs due to uneven surfaces and steps. There is limited lighting inside the North Entrance.
