Directions to Drop Redoubt Fort
Unfortunately Drop Redoubt doesn’t have its own postcode being Napoleonic and all………
If approaching from the A20 (sea) follow the signs for Aycliffe at the Megger roundabout and turn right up South Military Hill, as you near the top you will go past St Martins Battery (free car park on your right) and over the brow of the hill continuing back down until you see the first right hand turn with a brown heritage sign saying Drop Redoubt Fort, this is Drop Redoubt Road. There is limited free parking on this road down to the cattle grid (under the height barrier).
If approaching from the town turn left off of York Street onto Durham Hill (follow brown Heritage sign saying Drop Redoubt Fort), follow the hill up going right then left (following another brown heritage sign) continuing up past the BMS garage on the left hand side until just after the hill bends to the left. Drop Redoubt Road is on your left as you exit the bend (if you reach the brow of the hill you have gone past)!
