Sunday 16th August saw our final workday inside the Drop Redoubt fort for this year. September brings our North Entrance tours as part of the wider Heritage Open Days event – click HERE for tickets to the tours and more info. These tours are free but pre-booking is essential.
Workdays will then continue over autumn and winter outside the fort due to the rules about our nesting bat species. Please see our Calendar for info and dates for the rest of 2026.
The August workday achieved:
– Preparation and maintenance of the North Entrance site ahead of the upcoming tours in September
– Weeding and clearance of the BCB garage / gun sheds forecourt area
– Delivery of two packed tours of the Drop Redoubt
– Continuing the carpentry work in Caponier 4 to lay flooring
– Installing new Health and Safety signage
– Lighting and equipment checks
– Mowing and weeding around the fort
Sadly we could not open the Grand Shaft on the day due to circumstances beyond our control. This will be back to normal on future event days.
