In addition to our workday, on Sunday 15th March the Grand Shaft staircase and shop will be reopening for 2026. It will be open for visitors between 10am and 4pm. It will then be open again on the 3rd sunday of every month throughout the year and/or as part of other events – see our Calendar for further details and specific dates.
The Grand Shaft shop has a selection of books and merchandise, as well as refreshments and displays of maps and found artifacts of interest that relate to the history of the Western Heights. Why not pop in and take a browse?
The Grand Shaft staircase can be accessed either from the entrance on Snargate Street, or from the top entrance which is just beneath the Drop Redoubt, following the winding path of Drop Redoubt Road.
