WHPS Workday Report – October

A grey and slightly rainy 19th October saw our final workday inside the Drop Redoubt for this year, passing custody to the hibernating bats that live inside the fort over the winter and look after it in our absence. We would like to thank everyone who has joined our tours or visited us for any of our events this year and supported the Society – we hope to see you again from April 2026!

It has been a fantastic and successful year with our Open Weekend in June – featuring re-enactments and family activities – more family fun at the Family Kite Day in August, and the sold out talks and walks organised as part of the Heritage Open Days in September which also included our popular North Entrance tours.

This workday we achieved:
– Packing up and tidying the signs and models, tucking the fort in for the winter
– Tidying the cookhouse and café area, and general tidy up everywhere
– Spreading a top-up supply of gravel over the gun emplacements, continuing the work of our fabulous Equans volunteers earlier in the year
– Timber moved safely to the magazine for storage
– Rubbish collected and removed from around the fort
– Taking down the flag pole

A big shout out to all volunteers who helped on the day.

Just a note, Drop Redoubt tours will resume next Spring, but workdays will continue monthly over the winter, on the 3rd Sunday of every month. Our next workday will be November 16th! Volunteers are always welcome – please dress for the cold and outdoors and we hope to see you there. See our Facebook page and our Calendar of Events for further info.

Thanks from all of us at WHPS 🙂
